What is a Diode Laser?

A diode laser is an effective adjunct to oral soft tissue surgery, due to incisional haemostasis, and effective tissue vaporisation. Furthermore, it can be used to kill pathogens and is of use in periodontal and endodontic decontamination.

Laser therapy is a very useful adjunct to the management of pain, inflammation and infection, and can be used to improve the quality of tissues repair and regeneration. Referred to as photobiomodulation (PMB) – with a little training, this treatment is a fairly short learning curve to adding indispensable daily aid to patient care in any clinical practice.

The diode laser is a useful soft tissue laser as well as an instrument to deliver photobiomodulation and adjunct to tooth whitening.

The Diode Laser Course

A one-day intensive course built around 3.5 hours of guided hands-on practical under expert supervision – this offers the largest practical component of any UK diode laser course at this level.
Morning didactic sessions cover laser safety and regulation, soft-tissue surgery, periodontal therapy, photobiomodulation and laser-assisted hygiene.
The afternoon is dedicated entirely to you working on live oral tissue: setting parameters, practising incisions and haemostasis, and rehearsing the exact procedures you will perform in your clinic the following Monday.
Hygienists and therapists work in a parallel stream tailored to their scope of practice. Every delegate takes home the DeLTA Guidelines to Diode Laser Treatments manual, plus 2 hours of pre-course video tuition you can complete in advance.

The course is led by Prof. Steven Parker and Dr Mark Cronshaw and is open to all members of the dental team – from complete newcomers to existing laser users.

Your Hands-On Experience

What you will practise:

Gingivectomy and gingivoplasty
Frenectomy and frenotomy
Troughing, depigmentation and operculectomy
Haemostasis control on freshly cut tissue
Photobiomodulation dosing — getting the parameters right

How you will practise:

Supervised live-tissue stations with one-to-one feedback
Setting up your handpiece, fibre and laser parameters from scratch
Bring your own loupes (recommended) — handpieces and tissue provided

What you will leave with:

Confidence to deliver diode procedures in your practice the next working day
Written DeLTA clinical protocols and a take-home settings card
Access to course faculty for post-course questions

Pre-Course Video Learning Access

All delegates receive access to the pre-course video presentations through a private Teachable link, sent on confirmation of booking.

We ask that you view the videos before attending. Doing so frees up more of the day for enhanced hands-on practical training — so you arrive ready to work at the laser rather than working through the underlying theory in the room.

Your Teachable access remains open for one week after the course, allowing you to revisit any topic, consolidate what you have learned and refer back to the protocols you have just practised on tissue.
