What is a Waterlase Laser?

The Biolase Waterlase is an Er,Cr:YSGG (2,780 nm) all-tissue dental laser. The wavelength is absorbed by water, allowing the laser to cut both hard tissue (enamel, dentine, bone) and soft tissue using a precise combination of laser energy and atomised water spray — often with reduced or no local anaesthetic.

For the clinician, this means a single device that covers:

  • Cavity preparation and Class I–V restorations
  • Soft-tissue surgery: gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, frenectomy, vestibuloplasty
  • Endodontic disinfection and irrigant activation
  • Periodontal therapy and management of peri-implantitis
  • Crown-lengthening and pre-prosthetic gingival contouring

For the patient, the experience is quieter, more comfortable, and typically requires less anaesthesia – which is why Waterlase practices report higher acceptance rates for procedures patients would otherwise defer.

The Waterlase Course

The Waterlase Course

  • A one-day intensive Waterlase training course built around a 2.25-hour all-tissue hands-on workshop — the only diode-or-erbium course in the UK that puts hard-tissue cutting, soft-tissue surgery and endodontic protocols in front of you on the same day.
  • Morning sessions cover laser safety, oral surgery, oral medicine and pathology, periodontal applications, and a parallel hygiene workshop.
  • The afternoon is dedicated to the practical workshop, where you will cut both hard and soft tissue under supervision – calibrating the device, selecting tips, and developing the technique you need to use Waterlase confidently in your own practice.
  • Hygienists and therapists work in a parallel stream covering laser-assisted hygiene procedures and soft-tissue management to their scope of practice.

The course is led by Dr Mark Cronshaw, with Prof. Steven Parker delivering laser-safety and hygiene-stream sessions. Every delegate takes home the DeLTA clinical guidelines and gets access to pre-course video learning to maximise time at the laser on the day.

Your Hands-On Experience

What you will practise:
  • Hard-tissue cutting on extracted teeth — cavity preparation and enamel access
  • Soft-tissue surgery — gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, frenectomy, vestibuloplasty
  • Endodontic disinfection and irrigant activation protocols
  • Tip selection, spray ratios and parameter calibration for each procedure
How you will practise:
  • Supervised stations on the Biolase Waterlase Plus and Express
  • One-to-one technique feedback from Dr Cronshaw and Prof. Parker
  • Bring your own loupes (recommended) — handpieces and tissue provided
 What you will leave with:
  • Confidence to use Waterlase for routine clinical procedures the next working day
  • Take-home DeLTA clinical guidelines and parameter card
  • Faculty support for post-course questions and case discussion

Pre-Course Video Learning Access

Pre-Course Video Learning Access

All Waterlase delegates receive access to the pre-course video presentations through a private Teachable link, sent on confirmation of booking.

We ask that you view the videos before attending. Doing so frees up more of the day for enhanced hands-on practical training — so you arrive ready to work at the laser rather than working through the underlying theory in the room.

Your Teachable access remains open for one week after the course, allowing you to revisit any topic, consolidate what you have learned and refer back to the protocols you have just practised on tissue.
